The events of last Tuesday night have left me uneasy, as a colleague and respected journalist was cut down for being in the wrong place, at the wrong time.
I only spoke to Amber a handful of times, but it didn’t take much to get an idea of her what she was like. The media reports have it right on – she was happy, she was kind and she treated everyone with the utmost respect. I cannot explain why I feel a deep sense of loss from someone I barely knew. My editor, a close friend of hers, said she was vastly connected with the journalism community in Calgary and Alberta. And perhaps I feel like I am a part of that community now and empathize with them.
RIP Amber.
